Slutet på resan närmar sig....

Vi har seglat från sommarvärmen i Bahamas och Florida och vidare norrut. Passerat genom Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia och Maryland och mött våren på vägen. Emellanåt har vi haft ganska kallt väder. Det har varit dagar med långkalsonger, överdragskläder, Mustojacka, stövlar, handskar, egentligen alla kläder på. Men också dagar med shorts så som vi vill ha det. Hade några blåsiga dagar då vi valde att ligga still i Carolina Beach där vi också passade på att fira en födelsedag.

I södra Norfolk passerar man Great Bridge. Direkt efter Great Bridge är det en sluss. Vi fick broöppning kl 11 på måndagen den 10 april och går därefter direkt in i slussen som enda båt. Slussar och går sedan vidare mot Norfolk. Vi läser sedan att slussen fick ett el-fel kl 12 och slussen var sedan stängd hela veckan. En sån tur vi hade att vi kom igenom som sista båt innan stoppet. Det var verkligen nära att vi blivit fast i slussen i fem dagar!

Gjorde ett stopp i Norfolk hos Greta och Gary som är Port Officers för Ocean Cruising Club. Hade en trevlig sushi-måltid tillsammans. Vi hade några paket med delar till båten som vi fått skickade till deras adress.

Därefter har vi gjort ett stopp vid Deltaville Boatyard. För några år sedan landförvarade vi Balance här under orkansäsongen. Nu låg vi några dagar i deras jättetrevliga marina. Vi gjorde en massa jobb på båten för att få den klar inför försäljning.

Det börjar kännas lite speciellt när vi tankar diesel och inser att det nu är sista gången vi fyller på diesel. Det börjar bli ”sista gången” med en massa saker nu. Vi har ett par dagsetapper kvar till Annapolis där vår 11 år långa resa får sitt slut.

We have sailed from nice summer weather in the Bahamas and Florida and then north. Passed through Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia and Maryland and met spring on the way. At times we have had quite cold weather. There have been days with long underpants, coveralls, Mustojacket, boots, gloves, really all clothes on. But also days with shorts the way we want it. Had a few windy days when we chosed to lay still in Carolina Beach where we also took the opportunity to celebrate a birthday.

In southern Norfolk you pass the Great Bridge. Directly after the Great Bridge is a lock. We got the bridge opening at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 10, and then directly into the lock as the only boat. Locks and then proceed towards Norfolk. We then read that the lock had an electrical fault at noon and the lock was then closed all week. We were so lucky that we came through as the last boat before the stop. We really came close to getting stuck in the lock for five days!

Made a stop in Norfolk with Greta and Gary who are Port Officers for the Ocean Cruising Club. Had a nice sushi meal together. We had some packages of parts for the boat sent to their address.

Next, we made a stop at the Deltaville Boatyard. A few years ago we stored Balance on the hard here during hurricane season. Now we spent a few days in their very nice marina. We did a lot of work on the boat to get it ready for sale.

It starts to feel a little special when we fill up with diesel and realize that this is the last time we fill up with diesel. It's getting to be the "last time" for a lot of things now. We have a couple of days left to Annapolis where our 11-year journey comes to an end.
