Tillbaka i Florida/ Back in Florida

När vindprognoserna tyder på friska och hårda vindar så långt som prognoserna sträcker sig väljer vi att utnyttja ett väderfönster som gör det möjligt att segla tillbaka från Bahamas till Floridas östkust.

Att korsa golfströmmen kräver att vinden ej har nordlig riktning. Man säger att förhållandena om strömmen och vinden går åt olika håll är ”som att klappa en katt åt fel håll”.

Vi seglade från Nassau och angjorde Floridas kust i Fort Pierce där vi möttes av 4 knops motström i inloppet. Fortsatte sedan på Intracoastal Waterway till Vero Beach Marina. En sträcka om ca 240 sjömil som tog oss 35 timmar.

Vi kom fram till marinan i mörker men vi har varit här tidigare så det var inget problem. Förtöjde vid bränslebryggan och fyllde upp våra bränsletankar på morgonen när de öppnade.

Mannen på bränslebryggan var den förste vi träffade efter återkomsten till USA. Lite tråkigt tyckte vi det var när han bekräftade den nya Sverigebilden, så som den förmedlas av Mr Trump, för oss.

När vi sedan förtöjt vid en av marinans bojar, tog vi tillsammans med Dorte och René från danska båten Fru Valle, en taxi till tullmyndigheten vid flygplatsen i Fort Pierce där vi klarerade in i USA igen.

Under passagen från Bahamas hade vi till en början bra vindar som följdes av stiltje. Blev ganska många motortimmar på vägen. Vår motor visar under vägen tecken på för dålig kylning. Dorte och René på Fru Valle är båda motormekaniker och gav oss god hjälp. Misstänkte att värmeväxlaren kunde vara igensatt men den visade sig vara i nyskick när vi fick isär den. Däremot hade vi kraftiga igensättningar i saltvattenkröken. Behandlade detta med frätande medel och det verkar nu fungera bättre.

Har nu ganska gott om tid och räknar med att stanna i Vero Beach ett tag. Det är en trevlig plats att vara på och vi njuter just nu av att kunna handla mat i välsorterade butiker och till rimliga priser.

Planen är att lyfta Balance på land i Green Cove Springs Marina den 7 april och flyga hem den 10 april. Fram till dess ska vi njuta av besök vid några av de trevliga platser i Florida som vi gillar.

When the wind forecasts predicts strong winds as far as the forecasts extend we choose to use a weather window that makes it possible to sail back from the Bahamas to Florida's East Coast.

Crossing the Gulf Stream requires that the wind does not have a northerly direction. They say that the conditions of the current and the wind going in different directions is "like stroking a cat in the wrong direction."

We sailed from Nassau and called at the coast of Florida in Fort Pierce, where we were met by counter-current 4 knots in the inlet. Then went on the Intracoastal Waterway to the Vero Beach Marina. A total distance of about 240 miles that took us 35 hours.

We arrived at the marina in the dark, but we have been here before, so it was no problem. Berthed at the fuel dock and filled up our fuel tanks in the morning when they opened.

The man at the fuel dock was the first person we met after returning to the United States. A bit disappointing, we thought it was when he confirmed the new image of Sweden, the way it is told by Mr Trump, for us.

Thereafter we moored at one of the marinas bouys. Then we took together with Dorte and René from the Danish boat Fru Valle, a taxi to the customs authorities at the airport in Fort Pierce where we cleared in to the US again.

During the passage from the Bahamas, we started with good winds that later disappeared. Used the engine for quite some hours. Our engine showed sign for poor cooling. Dorte and René on Danish boat Fru Valle are both motor mechanics and gave us good help. Suspected that the heat exchanger could be clogged, but it turned out to be as good as new when we took it apart. However, we had severe blockages in the saltwater bend. Treated this with caustics and it now seems to work better.

We have now quite a lot of time and expect to stay in Vero Beach for a while. It's a nice place to be and right now we are enjoying being able to buy food in the well-stocked shops at reasonable prices.

The plan is to take Balance on the hard in Green Cove Springs Marina April 7 and fly home to Sweden on April 10. Until then, we will enjoy visiting some of the nice places in Florida that we like.
