Cuba till Bahamas

(In English below)

The porch at the laundry

(In English:)
Left Marina Hemingway in Havana on Monday morning 26 February. Some paperwork at the Customs & Immigrations office. They broke the seal of our satellite phone, checked that we still had our two bikes onboard and went through the boat and checked that we did not have any passengers on board. They asked if we wanted a stamp in our passports, which we did not want to have to avoid trouble on arrival in the United States.

When we sailed away, we sailed together with the American boat 'Bout Time. They are from Kentucky, which is located in the middle of the US continent but has a connection to the ocean through the canal/river system in Grand Loop.

After a couple of hours of sailing in diminishing wind we had to start the engine. We had a slight headwind over the Gulf Stream. However, the current is on our way and we sometimes made 8.5 knots. 'Boat Time realized that they did not have enough diesel when we had to run the engine so much so they chosed to change course to Bimini to clear in there and refuel diesel. After 330 nautical miles, we came to Morgans Bluff on Andros Island where we cleared in to the Bahamas. Towards the end of the journey, we were having trouble charging the batteries. Turned out that a bearing in the alternator was given up. Fortunately, we have a spare alternator so we could change it.

In the small village of Morgans Bluff, there is full activity in the morning. A freighter has just arrived and in the harbor area there are lots of pick-up cars that load boxes and packages that the freighter has arrived with. As the freighter has just arrived, staff from Customs & Immigrations are also in place which was convenient for us. They are otherwise stationed at the airport and then you can call them when you need to clear in.

The other activity in the village seems to be concentrated to Willies Bar which is 50 meters from where we are moored. And they are open late…….

Morgans Bluff has an old history like "water hole". Fresh water supply has always been good here and Captain Morgan filled water for his pirate ships here.

Then we went on to Providence Island (the island where Nassau is located) where we waited for a low pressure to pass by while staying in a small marina. Stayed for a few days in beautiful Warderick Wells and have now come to Blackpoint. There we met with Doris and Johnny on 'Boat Time again.

In Blackpoint there are two "musts" that are guaranteed visits by the many cruisers coming here. There is ”happy hour” at the small bar at 4 - 6 and we also visit the world's finest laundry. When you have your laundry in the washing machine, you sit on the wonderful porch on the outside and admire the sea view. There is also Wi-Fi, a small convenience store and the ability to get your hair cut.
